Abstract

The software for citation analysis of the Central Library of the Szent-Györgyi Albert Medical University in Szeged, Hungary is suitable for automatic subject classrfication of journal collections in any scientific library. It can identify missing and subscribed core journals in individual subject categories, and ranks them according to their importance. To perform this function, journal titles are retrieved from the Journal Citation Reports volume of Science Citation Index which cite most frequently current articles from the Library's journals. No numerical values are necessary. Following input of this basic data, the system ranks them automatically. The software has been successfully tested at the Library Science department of the Juhász Gyula Teacher's Training College, and on the journal collection of the Szeged Biology Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
