The ION project

Abstract

The ION project is a feasibility demonstration project of the IMPACT European Community Programme. Its aim is to achieve the interconnection of the interlibrary loan systems of 3 countries of the Community: The United Kingdom LASER system, the Netherlands PICA system and the French PEB system (implemented by the Ministére de l'Education Nationale et de la Culture). The ION project (Interlending OSI Network) aims to use the OSI model for this interconnection between 3 incompatible systems. This paper describes the national specifications, the technical options and decisions, and the current status of the project. Future developments are also envisaged with a link to document delivery.
