The alphabet of library automation

Abstract

Problems occuring during automation of libraries or information systems are identified. Proposals are made to accomplish the tasks needed, and to avoid problems that can be or should be avoided. A special attention is paid to preparation, planning and standardization. Advanced solutions of net-working, open system interconnection, interface design, modular design etc. are pointed out. Human factors are also considered. In summary, an operational ard is given to library managers to face the challenge of automation.
