Abstract

The National Periodicals Database (NPD) is the union catalogue of foreign periodicals in Hungarian special libraries, technical libraries and university libraries. Presently, about 700 libraries send data on their collections annually, compared to an earlier number of about 1000 libraries, to the publishers of NPD who process them in batch mode. Development plans of NPD are presented, covering four issues: the introduction of an online data acquisition system for input to NPD, an interlibrary lending module interconnected with the online database, the possibilities of an acquisition and ordering module with daily updating, and the elaboration of a shared catalogueing system to be introduced in the future.
