Abstract

In NTL of Hungary, a new stage of library automation that had been started in the beginning of the eighties has been completed recently. Following the introduction of the automatic cataloguing and OPAC, the automated acquisition system has been operational since the first months of 1994, as the first stage of NTL's integrated library system. The new system integrates all acquisition functions from selection to cataloguing, and it has replaced manual actions almost completely. The concept of "a single document - a single bibliographic record" has been realized. In addition to facilitate routine work and improve service quality, the new system supports the realization of NTL's acquisition policy effectively, the allocatlon and management of acquisition resources, and the supervision of the entire process.
