A few hours in Gopher space: The case of medicine

Abstract

Librarians accessing information resources available through external networks for the library's own purposes should also advise their readers and users on the opportunities offered by these sources. This series of papers aims to present a general overview of the information sources available in several subject areas, now accessible using Gophers. Case studies
will be described on adventures in Gopher space and on information sources accessed through Gophers. Descriptions of the sources are far from complete, however, they attempt, with the aid of numerous illustrations, to show as many sources as possible, and to suggest guidelines on discovering other sources. In this first paper, following a general description of Gophers, the search for information sources in biomedical sciences is demonstrated.
