Abstract

The authors visited Centre d'Études Supérieures Industrielles (CESI), the postgraduate training centre of engineers in France. Four training programmes for engineers are presented: Formation d'lngénieurs (FI); Nouvelle Formation d'lngénieurs (NFI); Formation d'lngénieurs par l'Apprentissage (FIPA); and Postgraduate MSc. education. In all these areas, methods of open and distance learning have been successfully applied, and the role of information science and technology has been steadily grown. The possibility of adopting the authors' experiences within new forms of education in Hungary is outlined.
