Information Infrastructure Development Project

Abstract

UDP of Hungary was started in 1986, supported jointly by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the National Committee for Technical Development. The history and recent results of HDP are overviewed. The basic services of the project include the electronic mail service ELLA, the file transfer program system PETRA, a series of online databases (consisting of 78 databases presently). The network developed through HDP has been connected to EUnet, EARN and HEPNET so far, and will be connected soon to Internet and InterEUnet. In the framework of the project, regional and subject-field-oriented centres will be set up. the data communication network, the electronic mail system, the database and library services will be improved and expanded. The management bodles of HDP are the Supervisory Board, the Operation Committee, the Users' Council and the Coordination Bureau.
