Abstract

The scientific and technical information programme of the German federal government for the period of 1990- 1994 is a continuation of similar documents elaborated for previous periods. The present programme contains the status of information industry, results achieved so far, responsibilities and authority fields of the federal government, and determines new objectives, major fields of activities, and presents several tables and data. Both the private sector and the government have important roles. The government focuses its efforts to and supports key activities. (E.g., a crucial function of the government is the promotion of international cooperation.) Scientific and technical libraries are decisive factors of the information system. The programme also considers the information supply of higher education and of small and medium enterprises, the production of new databases and development of existing ones, the improvement of document supply, the questions of research and development in the fields of information science and technology, the education and training of users and information professionals, resp. (The programme has been prepared before the German unification.)
