Abstract

Following a brief overview of Naisbitt's megatends, the author discusses the need of changes in libraries. The introduction of business information services in libraries is presented as an example, pointing out that if libraries with their traditions and back-ground fail to do so, new organizations will emerge to supply users with such services, and libraries will be subjects to lose their present role and importance. Introduction of business information services is considered as an innovation process coping with the need of change. and the key issue is the management of innovation. It covers various actions like the SWOT method of assessment, coordination and cooperation, handling of conflicts, internal communication, provision of financial resources, management of fee-based services, legal regulations, marketing and others.
