The author describes his experiences and his ideas based on these experiences with a hypertext training program which discusses several issues concerning abstracting (abstract types, main steps of abstracting process etc). He confronts technology with phenomena and fashion associated with hypertext. compares his experiences with the proliferating literature on the subject and with predictions by several experts.
