Abstract

The Hungarian national library (f. 1802) performs a wide range of tasks from making its centuries-old collections available for the public to collecting and providing digitally generated content. In our age, the role of libraries and librarians is radically changing. New concepts have appeared, such as web harvesting, digital libraries, creative community involvement, digital humanities and philology... How can – in this period of drastic transformation of information technology and community collaboration – the national library contribute to developing national systems and international co-operation?
