Abstract

After a general presentation of the suitability of hypertext and hypennedia for information purposes, a Hungarian application, the HIPERTÁR system introduced at the National Széchényi Library of Hungary is discussed in detail. The description covers the philosophy of the national library system, based on the Toolbook hypertext system, the title page and system architecture, some details highlighted from the structure of the system, the menus and „maps" of the system. Finally, the development possibilities of the HIPERTÁR system are considered.
