Hungarian research libraries - Their contribution to the European culture and cultural heritage

Abstract

This paper, presented previously at the Meeting of Ligue des Bibliothéques Européennes de Recherche (LIBER), Budapest, 1 July 1992, provides evidence on the successful contribution by the Hungarian culture and science to the promotion of the European culture, even during the most difficult years. This contribution is expected to become more intensive and more direct in the tuture. For this purpose, difficulties existing in some areas (the problems of automation, acquisition policies, telecommunication facilities etc.) should be solved which requires higher support than presently by the government and through international cooperation.
