SCI on CD-ROM: Is this the largest export system of the world?

Abstract

The system of the Science Citation Index (SCI} edited on CD-ROM is reviewed, and is considered the realization of bibliographic coupling in form of a commercial database. In this relation the difference between the cocitation coupling and the bibliographical coupling is discussed. Since the system of SCI is based on the reference lists of the related publications and the compilation thereof is a typical expert work, the SCI on CD-ROM can be regarded as a huge expert system.
