Ten years in the world of online information services

Abstract

In Hungary, the online utilization of Western databases started ten years ago. On this occasion, the author discusses in detail the practice of online services in the Gedeon Richter Pharmaceutical Factory, Hungary. Data are presented on the number and complexity of queries, and on the importance of various hosts and databases in the answering of the queries. User group habits are analyzed. The role of intermediaries and the administration of searches are described. Finally, the influence of the success of online information retrieval on the evaluation of the company's library is discussed.
