Contribution of the Institute for Scientific and Technical Documentation and Information in the linguistic support of the national information system of Cuba

Abstract

The role of IDICT in the supply of the National Scientific and Technical Information System (NSTIS) of Cuba with indexing and search language support is outlined. It covers the development, standardization, automatic generation and updating of indexing tools as well as training and methodology support in this field. In all these aspects IDICT has overcome the difficulties of the beginning, so presently the indexing and search languages needed for information exchange and cooperation are available. The task now is the extension and improvement of the existing practice with Its goals set by the author as the main direction of research and development in the near future.
