Information support for strategic planning during political change

Abstract

Eastern European countries are experiencing the transition from a centralized planning to the free market economy. The experiences of corporate management for survival that have been galned in the United States during the requirements of steadily changing environments can be of value for these countries. Long range strategic plannlng has an important role both for the corporate and for its information system. Due to continuous variations. a major weight is put on corporate intelligence, on the change of corporate views, on cooperation within a company and externally, on the transformation of corporate culture, on human resources. The informatlon manager should find his or her position under these circumstances to be able to play an active role in his or her organization's operations. The requirements based on the changed functions should be represented in the education and training of information specialists as well.
