Abstract

Informatlon management (IM) started as an independent discipline two decades ago, based on the acknowledgement of information as a resource equal to resources like personnel, capital, plant, equipment etc. During its evolution it has been relying on new information technologies but nowadays the problems of cooperation and integration have been emerging at higher priorities. IM evolution has been going on in five stages, therefore training problems in this field can be discussed only in relation with these stages. It is also associated with the posltion of Iinformation resources management within a corporation. The information manager should possess both professional skills and human qualities. Education and training methodologies can be realized as in-house training courses, continuous education (seminara, short courses, in-service training programs), library and information school studies. The barriers between traditional library education and education for IM should be removed.
