Strategic planning for libraries in the electronic age

Strategic planning processes, particularly those for sharing print and electronic informafion in university libraries, are discussed. The role that a university plays in providing access to resources, and the relationship of the individual universify to the international electronic directories of information is pointed out. Site visits were made to fourteen major university libraries in the United States to gain a conception of fhe spread and variations in the electronic provision ol information and its share in American universities. Using these experiences, the strategic planning process introduced in MIT is described in detail.
