Information to high tech industry in Otaniemi Science Park

Abstract

The Science Park in Otaniemi, Finland, not far from the city of Helsinki, has been the "incubator" of industrial enterprises with projects involving innovations. They have moved to this location in their early period of development. The one-and-half-year long experimentál period ol the Helsinki University lo Technology is described. The aim of this experiment was to turn the attention of small companies operating in this area toward library and information services available for them, and to survey their information needs. According to the experiences. these companies have utilized the free information services (SDI. online retrieval, document delivery etc.) primarily to extend their library colleclions by back issues. When the free of charge period was over, the usage dropped drastically.
