Abstract

The 44th Congress of the International Federatlon for Information and Documentatlon was held from 24 August to 1 September, 1988, together with the usual satellite events. The Congress was centered around the following topics: The human informatlon processor. Subject analysis and document description, Evolution of information services, Electronic knowledge and expertise, Information in industry - information industry. National and international policies. In addition to the presentation of the main topics of the Congress, reports are given also on the major events as well as on the Social Information and Documentation Committee of FID. The interest toward the activities of FID has been growing again, and the projects based on the new strategy attract more participants, also from socialist countries. The FID as one of the oldest non-intergovernmental international organizations can be renewed and has been found to be appropriate to meet the challenges of the information society and of its possible crisis problems.
