Consultancy services for library building and furnishing

Abstract

The two main reasons of establishing a central library building and furnishing consultancy in countries striving to diminish back vardness by accelerated development are to assure functional and proper operation of the new facilities, and to disseminate relevant expertise. During the development, the attitude of state agencies has changed from their strict authoritarian role to a consultative partnership, and a wide opportunity has been opened for individual consultants, too. In old established librarianships an opposite trend can be observed: first, library construction experlsappeared, followed by consultancy services. It can be concluded that official activities of the governing agency and the contribution of individual consultants can be regarded as complementary services rather than as activities exludung each other.
