Abstract

Short description of an information system on statistical data. The so-called metainformation system is a specific type of information systems, which operates in two steps. In the first step the catalogues shows the way for the search into a second system, this is a documentation system for data stored on computer media. Through the two steps the user can obtain the relevant data. A new member of the metainformation system is deseribed, which supplies the required data if it is not stored in data banks, but published in conventional form of statistical tables. The use of bibliographical methods is possible, because the content of some related tables is compressed in a short text, this texts are ihe units of the catalogue. The units have their own identifier, and with a computer produced subject index one could locale the publications, in which the relevant data of the required topics are.
