Abstract

Examples are shown that from the beginning of the 80s, scientific degrees (candidate degree) can be achieved for presenting theses in library and information science, as a consequence of an increased inclination for the evaluation and acceptance of interdisciplinary subjects in the scientific qualification system. In this respect, the literature subcommittee of the official Scientific Qualification Committee and the so-called ad-hoc committee for special literature information have rendered good services. For librarians and information scientists capable of high-level generalisation of library and information practice this fact should present itself as a challenge that should be utilised.
