Information, communication and technology transfer : The 43rd Congress of the International Federation for Documentation (FID)

Abstract

The FID held its 43rd Congress from 8 to 19 September, 1986, in Montreal, Canada. Celebrating the 90th anniversary of the foundation of FID, the Congress was organized in the following sessions: 1. information - theory, equipment systems; 2. access to information by telecommunication; 3. systems development; 4. coordination, integration and networking; 5. technology transfer; 6. information management. The Congress was characterized by lively exchanges of opinions of the participants, and the questions raised at the sessions reflected the beginning of a renewal process of the FID. In its new R + D programmes of the Federation the objective is to satisfy the needs aroused by the rapid development of the profession of documentation and information as fully as possible, and to contribute to the development of information related activities in the developing countries.
