Principles of packet switching and the activities of the Hungarian PTT in its application I.

Abstract

With the instaliation of an experimental packet switching exchange in 1985 the Hungarian PTT has made the first step toward the application of packet switching technology. Itjustifies to pay special attention to this paper published in two parts for specialists in the field of informatics. The first part defines the place of packet switching in public data transmission services of the Hungarian PTT. Circuit switched and packet switched network operating modes are evaluated from the user's point of view, information is given on the structure, protocols and operational characteristics of packet switched networks.
