In China as a librarian

Abstract

The author presents a short overview of what he saw during his two-weeks tour in China on the social changes, on the initiatives in the period after the so-called Cultural Revolution, and on the intensification of international relations. The author visited several libraries and information centres, delivered lectures and held consultations organized by the Library of the Academia Sinica and by the Scientific Library Association. The institutes visited are the Library of the Academia Sinica, the library of the Shanghai regional centre of the Academy of Sciences, the library of the Information Services of the Academy of Social Sciences, the National Library, the Library of the Palace of National Minori-ties, and the Library of Fudan University. The visitor is deeply impressed in the first place by the openness and the reception ability of China.
