One year of use of the new bibliographic and catalogueing standards

Abstract

The new Hungarian standards were introduced with the purpose to make the national library practice of bibliographic description and catalogue development compatible with international rules. Some of the libraries, however, especialty the major ones, refrained from the adoption of the new standards in their processing, due to their fear of unforeseeable problems. The National Technical Library introduced the new standards by 1st January, 1984. This paper summarizes the experiences in the hope of triggering a nationwide professional debate, without concealing the problems.
