The productivity and citation impact of a scientific elite. University professors in some selected science fields and countries

Abstract

It is generally believed, that university professors represent an outstanding research elite in most countries. In this study the research performance of professors of some selected countries and subject fields is compared with the average research performance of scientists of the countries in question. The greater than average values of publication productivity and citation impact suggest that the research performance of professors proves the elite character of that group.
