Applications of computer in the Technical Library of Slovakia

Abstract

A general overview of computer-aided services of the Technical Library of Slovakia are presented: selective dissemination of information (SDI), acquisition lists of new foreign documents in the scientific libraries and information centres in Slovakia, processing of company library holdings and its SDI, registration and circulation of periodicals, production of translation statistics, personal and management files. Presently, the preparation of the computerized book lending service (in online regime) is under way. The computer processing of book registration is under preliminary evaluation. It is shown that, for computerized library services, it is not always necessary to possess a mainframe computer in every library.
