Abstract

Criteria used for evaluating the potential of an existing building are the same as those used in designing a new library building. The building suitable for library use should be flexible with a layout, structure and services which are easy to adapt; compact for economy of readers, staff and books; constant in environment for the preservation of library material; and economic in capital cost and subsequent running costs. The purpose of the feasibility study is to provide the client with an appraisal and recommendation in order that he may determine the project to be feasible functionally, technically, aesthetically and financially.
