In the first years of its activities, CTD has concentrated its efforts especially to the development of unified procedures, standardized software and of SDI services. These services are recently based on a total of 49 databases, those developed in the country (including three factual ones), or NTMIR or Western databases. The next phase has been the introduction of online services. For this purposes, 12 databases of those used for SDI services were made online available within the country. In this process, CTD has acquired the central functions of the Czechoslovakian database services. In 1980 started the phase of accessing foreign databases with the Soviet Union. Accordingly, the functions of CTD has been extended by becoming the national centre of automated information exchange. In the 80s the next development períod will be associated with the overcoming of communication problems of the national scientific-technical-economical information system.
