Abstract

Recent industrial developments make quick information transfer imperative. PTTs and other telecommunication agencies try to cope with the growing requirements by upgrading existing services and by introducing new services. One of the new computer-aided communication (or telematic) services is facsimile which combines copying and fast deltvery functions. The remote copy or facsimile of the document to be delivered appears at the addressee within minutes. It opens the way of transferring information types that are impossible via traditional communication means (telephoné, telex ect.). Facsimile services started in Japan and it has proliferated quickly in Western Europe and in America. Presently, there are about 2 million facsimile devices throughout the world, almost as many as telex machines. To date either subscriber-based (telefax) or PTT-based (bureaufax) facsimile services have been opened in about 50 countries.
