Abstract

In order to protect the effectiveness of online information retrieval, the pitfalls and snags of online bibliographic database searching are pointed out. A part of the traps are due to the unsuitability of the subject topics for online searching, others are related wilh insufficiency of special terminology or with the inadequate knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of search systems. There are inherent deficiencies of the online searchable databases and of the scarch systcms which have to be taken into consideration. Until these limits will not be climinated by the devclopment of the in formation technology, the traps can be avoided only by the edueation of users starting during their undergraduate studies of how to do and utilize effectively computerized literature searching.
