Operation of the OMIKK's online information service in 1982

Abstract

The author presents a review of the retrospective bibliographic online search services performed in 1982 by the Computerized SDI and Retrieval Department of the National Technical Information Center and Library, Hungary (OMIKK). The business, technological and personnel requirements of this nation-wide service and their realization in the OMIKK are discussed. The online suppliers used by the service were the Data-Star (Radio Suisse), Dialog (USA) and INIS (IAEA). Their databases, the charging system, the operational structure and usage forms of the service are described. The one-year operational experiences, including the demand for and the utilization of the service, the satisfaction of the end users and the limitations encountered are outlined.
