A new model of providing library services in rural areas - the Library Service System for Rural Areas ín Bács-Kiskun County

Abstract

The author sets out a possible model of providing renewed, effective library services in small villages. Readers are presented the process through which, with the help of the county library, a new library and information service providing centre - also offering a venue for other community activities - is set up in a small village. The professional, costeffective services are operated by the county library and are essentially based on the utilization of computere and the Internet The village library becomes part of the integrated system of the county library and benefits from professional support and quality services. The service system is financially supported out of state funding provided for the so-called „small districts", small administrative units based on the partnership of several villages for the purpose of joint development projects.
