Special libraries in industrial companies. A state-of-the-art report with development intentions

Abstract

Apart from four special libraries in large companies the author has also visited nine ones found in medium and small enterprises. Based on his experiences and on severel publications on this topic he is inclined to conclude that instead of the numerous weak industrial libraries the information supply of the medium and small enterprises should be ensured by following the French example (Agance régiónál d'information scientifique et technique). In Hungary this could be only a long-term objective but, based on the nature and the information needs of the companies, appropriate organizational models could be developed and recommended for them. Activities in this direction have already started.
