Ranganathan's classification theory

Abstract

Attempting to fill partly an old gap in Hungarian literature on library and information science, commented excerpts are presented from the monograph of the Hindu philosopher and library scientist S. R. Ranganathan: „Prolegomena to library classification". Selection priority was given to Ranganathan's classification philosophy but extractions characterizing the essential features of his personality, his novel ideas, his peculiar vocabulary and his very Indian attitude and views are also included.
