Analysis of a computer file of' periodicals

Abstract

Based on their foreign periodicals, special libraries participating in the Coordination Group for Technical Libraries established a computer-assisted union catalogue in 1972. In the present article data for 1983 were analyzed, relating to 469 libraries, 734 records (bibliographical units) and 18 735 items. The file was examined from three aspects: unique titles (4022), titles available in more than 10 copies (228 titles, 4080 occurences) and periodicals received as gifts or in exchange (2061 titles, 2409 occurences) were analyzed. The objective of the study was to promote the rationalization of foreign periodical supply in Hungary.
