Repository plans and repository libraries

Abstract

Systems of repository libraries in Hungary and abroad are reviewed in order to draw conclusions concerning further development programmes. Consequently, the author envisages a system based on several discipline-oriented repository libraries. These libraries should be institutions especially active in collecting, purchasing and supplying library materials. Holdings taken over by them, consisting mainly of single-copy items, would become their property. An important requirement of their productive performance in interlibrary lending and photocopying is advanced library technology (telecommunications, reprography, computerized and frequently updated union catalogs).
