Abstract

Issues relating to the provision of information for development, particularly as they affect the General Information Programme of Unesco, are discussed. Obstacles to the effective application of information to the solution of the problems of endogenous development are reviewed in the light of the international economic situation, with particular reference to current trends in the development of information technology and the growth of the information industry. The structure and activities of the General Information Programme, through which it attempts to contribute to the solution of these problems, are described.
