Abstract

Second part of the article published in TMT (vol. 30, No. 1-2, p. 13-21). Co-operation of the National Technical Information Centre and Library (OMIKK) with competent information centres for various fields of science and technology in the preparation and publication of abstract journals. The co-operation combines the advantages of a national information centre equipped with the necessary technical facilities and capable of holding and processing a large scale of literature on the one hand, and the special knowledge of the relevant subject and the user needs available at the specialized institutions on the other. The ways of co-operation. Conceptual improvement and delimination of subject fields. Inclusion in the abstracting of all types of available documents. Structural improvement: inclusion of cross-references, subject indexes to each issue, special indexes by type of the documents processed. Other aids to users, e. g. instructions for use, illustrated with examples, reader service cards for ordering lending, photocopies, translations etc. of the original documents. Further goals: development of co-operation, quality improvement, establishing a machine-readable database of abstracts for the computer-aided editing of the journals.
