A century in the service of scientific and technical development

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the National Technical Information Centre and Library (OMIKK) the article traces the history of the institution. Consequently, the Technological Museum for Industry opened in June 1883, the interwar period, the independent Technological Documentation Centre developed from the documentation and information department of the Hungarian Patent Office as well as the most important events of the period beginning in the early 50s (e.g. the establishment and the activities of the National Technical Library and the National Technical Library and Documentation Centre, founded in 1952 and 1961, respectively) are presented. Finally, the latest development period of the institution (from January 1, 1982 -OMIKK) is discussed.
