-Abstract
The oldest organizational unit of the National Technical Information Centre and Library (OMIKK), celebrating its centenary, is the National Technical Library (OMK). The place and role of OMK among Hungarian libraries, its acquisitions efforts (67 000 new items in 1982) as well as its storage problems and catalogues are described. Its public services are characterized by statistical data reflecting the changes in the nurriber of library transactions. By providing union catalogue based services and organizing the redistribution of documents discarded by smaller libraries, OMK is also contributing to the solution of national-level tasks in librarianship. Its catalogue publications are often prepared by using computer-based technologies. As to the near future, the promotion of microfiche applications as well as the generation of COM fiche catalogues are planned.
