Development trends of patent classification systems

Abstract

The establishment and the development of national patent classification systems are reviewed. The reasons for the introduction of the International Patent Classification (IPC) system, its history and development are described. The so-called hybrid classification system is discussed in detail. The future role of patent classification is also considered.
