Abstract

Libraries and innovation mutually influence each other: libraries support and promote innovation on the one hand, while they should employ it in developing their own activities on the other. During the development of Hungarian libraries the effectiveness of innovation has always been contradictionary: because of the parent organizations' low-level demand and lack of resources innovation meant nothing more to special libraries than their adaptation to the environment. In libraries innovation investment should be assigned to data processing, reprographic, library service and storing equipment as well as to the modernization of document storage and to personnel training.
