Abstract

MATARKA, the Hungarian database service providing tables of contents of Hungarian periodicals started in 2002 (http://www.matarka.hu). MATARKA has recently initiated an article-copy sending service in cooperation with the Document Supply Service of the Customer Service Department of the National Széchényi Library. As we immersed ourselves into this subject we became interested in how similar document sending services work abroad. We examined three leading institutes that provide such article-copy sending services: the British Library Document Supply Centre (they also deal with interlibrary loans), the CISTI – Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (their other activities include information research, publishing etc.), and subito document delivery service (also providing bookchapters). The article focuses on the topic of sending article-copies from periodicals, taking a closer look at copyright issues and methods used in order to implement this service.
