Abstract

LIS education at the university level – having started in the academic year 0948/49 at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest – arrived at a new milestone in the summer of 2009 when the first graduates finished their studies at the BA level according to the Bologna requirements. Following a short overview of the new structure of higher education in Hungary and the steps of accreditation, the author draws a balance of education for the BA level, based on the experience of education at the ELTE Faculty of Humanities, Institute of Informatics and Library Science (BTK IKI). He later focuses on LIS education for the MA degree, having started at various library schools in Hungary in September 2009.
