Media collection at the Library of the University of Szeged. A special digital video store on the intranet in a university setting

Abstract

The Library of the University of Szeged, having been enriched five years ago by a huge new building, has been offered a lot of new technological opportunities as well. Within this framework a number of new ideas could be tested, among them a modern Media collection was set up to serve the special purposes of university education. This collection is unique as it is not acquired by purchases, but by the library digitally capturing films broadcast by Hungarian-language non-fiction television channels, as well as similar films of other televisions. The article discusses the planning phase, the technological and legal background, the provision of services today, as well as the developments to be implemented in the near future.
